My life begins on 12 April 1955.
HYPERREALISM
For my drawings, I use very sharp pencils. When I start a piece, I use grids and other measuring techniques. To create a drawing, I start with a photograph as a reference point.
Hyperrealism plays a lot with maximum detail; I would say that this is the most impressive aspect due to its resemblance to photography, but done by hand.
It stirs deep emotions in me to achieve this goal. I am passionate about portraiture, especially the eyes, which convey the emotion of a deep gaze.
ABSTRACT
This past year, 2025, I have been experimenting in the world of abstract art, a whole new world in my artistic life, full of sensations and emotions that take me into the unknown in a visceral way.
For my abstract works, I use acrylic paints, oils, and other techniques, as well as various new materials that I prepare and different tools that the work sometimes requires. I am constantly experimenting with new forms and ideas, which can sometimes make it difficult to know which direction to take. I experience an intimate connection with the works, which is often difficult to define or interpret.
BIOGRAPHY
I was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. From a very young age, I loved drawing. It was my favourite thing to do, along with any kind of craft, whether it was making a paper house or simply transforming a piece of wood into something else. I was always interested in transforming things.
When I was fifteen, I signed up for drawing classes, but I didn't even last half a month because the teacher didn't tell me anything, so I quit. I am self-taught and, fortunately, I have always been good at drawing. It's as if I was born with it, as it was never an effort for me. Rather, it was all about time and not difficulty, but I had to spend many hours drawing.
I worked in advertising, and I dedicated a large part of my life to the profession of screen printing, starting from scratch until I became an expert in the field, founding my own company more than thirty-five years ago. To do this, I had to give up the world of art during that time and a little more. I did not suffer during that time for not continuing to make art, and I felt protected by it. I knew that I carried it within me; if that had not been the case, I think it would have been terrible. When I retired at the age of 66, there were several paths to take, from fashion to jewellery, etc., but I knew I could only choose one. So I opted for what I considered most appropriate, which is drawing and painting to this day.
The subjects of my drawings are portraits that reflect a lot of expression, especially in the eyes, still lifes, or any subject that lends itself to great detail, such as folds, wrinkles, etc.
People who see my work are impressed by its great detail, which visually borders on photography. That sets me apart from most other artists because of the technical difficulty of the hyperrealism I do.
Currently, there have been changes in my life in many aspects, both personal and artistic. My life has taken a big turn, which is causing my values to evolve. Artistically, there are major changes taking place on a technical and conceptual level in my life. It is no longer what it used to be. I am gradually entering the world of abstraction, where values, shapes, lines and colours make my art vibrate in a different way, as does my life. I am very happy and motivated, discovering the richness and nuances of the shapes and emotions that abstract art offers me. It is a continuous, fragile and complicated challenge, but at the same time it is what my artistic and personal life demands.
